Gilt Taste's new screening series By the Smoke recounts an extraordinary feast upstate.

A couple of weeks ago some friends of ours, including Alec Friedman of Dossier Journal, jewelry designer Anna Sheffield and Gilt Taste managing editor Jennifer Pelka, gathered at the Catskills home of filmmaker Itahai Schori for a truly epic meal. We weren’t invited (ahem). But you are, thanks to Taste’s new Friday video series, By the Smoke, featuring some crazy, envy-inducing photography by Schori. Last week the video meal kicked off with a course of soft boiled egg with wild mushrooms and Jamon Iberico (you know, no biggie). Today they follow that up (below) with Hama Hama blue pool oysters with pickled mustard seeds and charred scallions. We may never forgive the Post Office for losing our invite, but at least we can relish in the gang’s recherché du cuisine perdu. Up next, kale salad with braised shallots, toasted pine nuts and golden raisins.
