Billy Reid’s well-deserved popularity and esteem in cosmopolitan fashion circles seems to be at an all time high. But none of that would be possible without the love and support of his adopted home town of Florence, Alabama. This past weekend marked the third annual thank you to his community, called The Shindig, and it was bigger and better than ever. I’ve been lucky enough to have been invited to each Shindig, and the scale of the event—and the enthusiasm for it—have grown exponentially since the first time I was down in 2009. If you like Billy’s taste in clothes (and I do) then you’d love his taste in music, food and drink just as much. Hazy 100 degree weather didn’t dampen the party (shirts, on the other hand, got plenty damp), but shattering my iPhone upon landing in Florence did diminish my ability to document the festivities as well as I would have liked. However fuzzy the pictures of energetic performances by The Romany Rye, The Apache Relay, Justin Townes Earl and Billy himself may be, Florence’s love for Billy (and his love for them) came through clear as day.
