What could possibly get Jack White, Bob Dylan, Norah Jones, and Merle Haggard in a room together? Some unfinished business, namely, the remaining songs of Hank Williams. As Park & Bond notes in this week’s Agenda, the artists came together to record—and in some cases, complete—songs from Williams’s country music oeuvre. The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams is an aural as well as historical and personal look at the artist, whose untimely death left a slew of questions and more than a few notebooks worth of musical compositions in various states. Culled from those books, the twelve “new” songs offer a glimpse of the talent Williams was, and what he could have become.
