Saturday night, a full 24 hours after Nemo was supposed to wreak havoc over New York City, shoe designer Alejandro Ingelmo showed off his Fall/Winter 2013 collection on the third floor of The Standard Hotel. I’m a self-proclaimed sneaker freak (sneaker pimp? nahhh), simply due to their practicality and comfort, so I was looking forward to seeing what Ingelmo had up his sleeve….and he delivered. The designer, who launched his men’s line in 2007 (one year after his women’s collection gained a cult following), showed off what he’s known for and what he’s damn good at– skins. From fur high-tops to toned-down muted exotics of the same shape and proportion, AI played with sneaker soles, tasseled burgundy penny loafers, as well as a pair of suede chukka boots that showed both a new direction and creative range for the designer. In between the crazy neon lights, multiple psychedelic mirrors and an art installation courtesy of Ivan Navarro, I still managed to see one thing clearly – I want these kicks!
