For Todd Snyder, who debuted his fall 2013 presentation earlier today, it all started with a leather jacket. “What you see here stems from an old motorcycle jacket I found in Leeds ages ago,” he says. “It was important for me to figure out how to weave elements of this café racer throughout my creations, so I played heavily with the notion of leather”. And that he did. He took the idea of “rebel gentlemen” and put his own spin on it, creating a progressive assortment that tips its hat towards Serge Gainsbourg (as well as those polished guys who were “outlaws…and vice versa”). But while “rebel gentlemen” may be the political term, Snyder made sure fall 2013 showed a different side to both his personality and designs. “I’m generally a very humble and nice person and this is kind of my way of vicariously coming out through my collection,” Snyder said. “To me, it’s very bad-ass.” From sharp cashmere suiting to a stand out horsehide bomber with a shearling bold collar, Todd Snyder has turned a corner – and he’s the first to agree. “I wanted to be a little bit more experimental and push the envelope and I worked with a lot of technical fabrics this time around. I’m really proud of the result.” Humble yet pleased – how badass.
