Los Angeles Film Festival, June 13 -23

Why so serious, Mr. Gosling?

Produced by Film Independent —the same folks behind the Spirit Awards — the LAFF kicks off with I’m So Excited!, the latest from inimitable Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar. But it’s the North American debut of Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn’s latest collabo with Ryan Gosling, Only God Forgives, that has us booking flights.

Head to for tickets and full schedule.

Chicago Craft Beer Festival, June 21-23
There are beer festivals all over these days. Know why we love this one? It’s in Chicago, which, in addition to being an amazing place to visit (in the summer), is a top food town. As for the suds, you’ll find over 100 varieties of seasonal brews, microbrews, and specialty beers at the event, plus nightly entertainment. And if beer’s not your thing, but you still find yourself itching to hit Chi-town, there’s always Lollapalooza in August.

For Festival tickets, head over to the event page. For Lollapalooza, you can find tickets on their website.

Newport Folk Festival, July 26-28
Famous as the place where Dylan went electric, the Newport Folk Festival also happens to be an amazing getaway for non-nostalgists, too. This year’s slate ranges from Beck and Jim James to Feist and The Avett Brothers. And, in case we hadn’t mentioned it, it’s all in Newport.

Outside Lands Festival, August 9 – 11

San Francisco’s Outside Lands calls itself the one and only gourmet food festival, and who are we to argue? Highlights include the American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, Best in Show (the only 5-star rated food cart on Yelp), and Escape from New York Pizza. For those familiar with GoogaMooga in New York City, it’s like that but with more music. And speaking of music, the lineup includes Paul McCartney, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Nine Inch Nails, D’Angelo, Jessie Ware, MS MR, Gary Clark, Jr., and tons more.

U.S. Open Tennis Tournament, August 26 – September 9

In case you’re looking for an excuse to visit Gilt’s hometown, you won’t find a better one than the U.S. Open. The action is impressive, the vibe is infectious, and — usually — the weather is great. Whether you’re lucky enough to score tickets to the men’s final doesn’t matter. It’s just enough to be there. Just be sure to look sharp. The U.S. Open crowd, particularly for the evening matches, is as stylish as any at an American sporting event.

Find out more about the match schedule and grab tickets on their website.
