Todd Snyder isn’t just one of the most talented designers in American menswear, he’s also one of the best dressed. To celebrate Todd Snyder New York’s debut on Gilt — noon ET on Friday, Sept. 6, same day as his Spring ’14 #NYFW presentation — we asked him to help us launch a new series designed to illuminate how some of the fashion world’s most stylish men got that way — and what you can learn from them.

Snyder’s collection combines a smart, Savile Row-inspired polish with a rugged, all-American ease, a mashup that earned him a CFDA nod and a spot as one of GQ‘s Best New Designers of the Year in 2012. Here, he takes us through the five things that helped define Todd Snyder style. Click through the slideshow (shot by Ryan Plett), then shop the sale on Gilt Friday Sept. 6 at noon ET.
