Description

Why to buy: All three of these Oregon wines are small productions and darlings of wine critics. The inaugural Kelley Fox release is one of the most critically acclaimed Pinot Noirs in the country and most of the 500 cases produced have been swept off the market. The Ghost Hill is elegant and balanced, thanks to the winemaker’s brilliant blending of the vineyards four clones of the grape. And to complete this trio of special wines, there’s a bottle of 1789 Pinot Noir 2009, of which only 150 cases were produced.

Nose, palate and pairing:

1789 Pinot Noir 2009 (91 points, Steven Tanzer): Dressed in a beautiful deep red color, the 2009 is packed with intense black berry and cassis aromas and flavors, with spicy and floral notes. With a velvety texture framed by round and elegant tannins and fruits, this seductive and charming wine is all about harmony and balance. 1789's 2009 is showing well right now and will continue to improve for at least a decade more. If you're drinking now, pair with grilled lamb sausage, juicy dry-aged steaks and woodsy mushrooms flecked with fresh thyme and parsley.

Ghost Hill Cellars Pinot Noir 2009 (90 points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate): The aromatics of this wine are fun and fruity: Black cherry soda, dried orange peel, vanilla and a little bit of spice. It’s fleshy and smooth on the mouth with berry, currant and a hint of anise. It's a food-friendly wine. Pair it with garlicky pastas, grilled meats or a bright, fresh salad.

Kelley Fox Wines Pinot Noir Momtazi Vineyard 2009: We are excited to now offer the 2009 vintage from Kelley Fox. ONly 163 cases were made and released this past spring. We love this classic Burgundy-style pinot noir with a picnic of baguette, soft and creamy cheeses and gorgeous cured meats and charcuterie. In chillier months, drink this stunner with classic French stews of boeuf bourguignon and coq au vin.
