Why to buy: Since launching Relic in 2001, Michael Hirby has been named one of the top-10 rising stars for small-production wines in California.
Characteristics: Ritual is a unique blend of grapes, including old vine Carignane and Petite Sirah, a rare combination for a Napa wine. 2010 is a particularly dark, rich vintage, with deep concentration, floral aromatics and hugely ripe fruit that can rival big, spicy foods. We love it with sticky, sweet Korean barbecued spare ribs, Thai chicken wings or any other spicy meat dish.
Varietals: 47% Mourvedre, 21% Carignane, 15% Grenache, 12% Petite Sirah, 5% Syrah
