Why you should buy: Only 330 cases were produced of this rare dessert wine crafted by one of Italy’s finest wine estates, Les Cretes.
Nose, palate and pairing: With an unusual, brilliant golden color, this wine has notes of dried apricots, flowers and honey and lime on the nose. Melons, pears and spice emerge on the palate, along with soft mineral notes. The finish is long and fresh.
The backstory: These grapes are harvested late, allowing their juices to sweeten and concentrate, before undergoing a gentle press and a fermentation period of 45 days in stainless steel tanks. Les Cretes is one of the few privately owned estates in Villa d’Aosta; and their Chardonnay has been called the best in Italy.
