Brothers Chris and Kirk Bray founded Billykirk (the name is a shortened version of William Kirkland, Kirk’s full name) in 1999 after stumbling upon an old leather watchstrap in a Los Angeles thrift store. It was love at first sight. The designers apprenticed with a third-generation craftsman to learn the techniques they now use to produce their exquisite leather and canvas belts, wallets, bags, briefcases, rucksacks, and, of course, watchstraps. East Coast-based since 2005, Billykirk now employs Amish artisans in rural Pennsylvania who use traditional leatherworking methods to turn high-quality domestic and Italian hides into functional yet fashionable bags and belts.
